Contextualising Nursing Practice 2 builds on Contextualising Nursing Practice 1 and explores quality and safety health care standards in the context of evidence-based practice and utilising the clinical reasoning cycle to determine nursing management of both trauma related and chronic health problems across the lifespan. Topics covered include planning for culturally safe nursing practice, person centered care across the lifespan from paediatrics to the care of older adults as well as the promotion of health, an introduction to use of digital technologies in health care practice and legal and ethical considerations in health care.

Learning outcomes

Upon successful completion of this unit, students will be able to:
1. Apply contemporary knowledge, clinical reasoning, and reflectivity in developing and planning person-centred care for patients experiencing traumatic injury;
2. Interpret and synthesis data to respond in an appropriate, timely manner to the deteriorating patient;
3. Critically appraise available evidence of chronic health issues, to support the provision of self-management, health promotion and the provision of person-centred care across the lifespan
4. Formulate and evaluate nursing for the care of older adult in-line with quality and safety standards for the care of the older adult, mental health for the older adult, and cognitive decline; and
5. Appraise and evaluate nursing practice within legal and ethical parameters, demonstrating high level autonomy and accountability for their own practice.
