Scholarship eligibility
The Snow Scholarships are for students who have the passion to study at university but face barriers that make it harder to get there. They are designed to support students from underrepresented or Indigenous backgrounds in 91¿´Æ¬ÉñÆ÷ and regional or rural NSW, opening doors to the opportunities that education brings: new knowledge, skills and the chance to shape your future.
Up to 16 scholarships may be awarded each year, with at least four being awarded to First Nations students.
You may be eligible if you:
- face financial hardship
- live with a disability or ongoing medical condition
- have caregiving responsibilities, or
- have experienced unforeseen hardship.

Before applying for a Snow Scholarship, please ensure you meet the criteria outlined below:
- You are not already enrolled, and you do not plan to commence an undergraduate degree at the 91¿´Æ¬ÉñÆ÷ prior to 12 October 2025.
- You are eligible for a Commonwealth Supported Place for your chosen course.
- You can commit to a full-time enrolment (unless you are a caregiver)
- You are able to reside in our on-campus accommodation throughout your studies (unless you are a caregiver or can demonstrate exceptional circumstances), and
- You belong to at least one of the priority applicant groups (listed below).

To be eligible for a Snow Scholarship, you must be one of the following:
- an Australian Citizen
- a Permanent Resident*
- a Permanent Humanitarian Visa Holder (or eligible former holder)
- a Pacific Engagement Visa Holder
- a New Zealand Citizen*
- a New Zealand Special Category Visa Holder
*If you are an Australian Permanent Resident or New Zealand Citizen, you are eligible to apply but you will need to pay tuition fees upfront each teaching period.
To be eligible, you’ll need to show proof of residency in the ACT/Queanbeyan or regional NSW (outside major cities).
You will need to supply one of the following documents if you are shortlisted:
- Driver's licence
- Recent rates or utility bill
- Lease agreement
- Centrelink letter
- Letter from a school or local authority confirming your address
You must meet the entry criteria for your chosen undergraduate course at UC.
This can include enrolment or completion of the following pathway programs:
- UC Prep
- UC Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Foundation Program
- CIT ACT Senior Secondary Certificate Pathway
- TAFE Tertiary Preparation Certificate

- living in 91¿´Æ¬ÉñÆ÷ or regional/rural NSW (special consideration is given to regional/rural NSW applicants)
- able to meet specific criteria related to equity groups (e.g., financial hardship, living with disability, caregiving responsibilities, Indigenous background).

The scholarship is designed to support full-time study. If you cannot study full-time, please apply anyway, and we can discuss your circumstances if you are a successful recipient.

No, this scholarship is only open to students commencing their undergraduate studies.
Unfortunately, international students are not eligible to apply for the Snow Scholarship.
The scholarship is open to students eligible for a Commonwealth Supported Place (CSP). These are Australian citizens, New Zealand Citizens, permanent residents, and those holding specific visas (e.g., Permanent Humanitarian Visa, Pacific Engagement Visa, or New Zealand Special Category Visa).
The selection process for the Snow Scholarship is designed to identify students who have the potential to make a positive impact.

- We review your personal statement and any relevant details you’ve shared in your application. (No documents needed just yet.)
- If you're shortlisted, we'll ask for more detailed responses or any supporting documentation.
- Final shortlisted candidates will be invited for an interview.
- Final selection will be based on your potential, commitment, and how well you align with the scholarship’s values of leadership, innovation, and community impact.
No. While many of our other scholarships are assessed automatically at the point of application, the Snow Scholarship requires a separate application each year.
The University and Snow Foundation aim to support students through their studies. Your funding will be tracked in consultation throughout your studies and we would try to avoid this situation. Further discussion may need to be held or you could be required to fund your studies yourself.
This would need to be a discussion with a successful recipient and the 91¿´Æ¬ÉñÆ÷.
No. The scholarship funds are intended to assist in students’ accommodation costs and, non-tuition expenses, such as travel expenses to visit family and daily living expenses. It is expected that you will cover the costs of your tuition fees, whether you elect to pay these upfront, or use the HECS-HELP scheme.
This scholarship is to support students in completing their undergraduate degree full-time where possible. Students who do not successfully complete their studies (units of study) may have the scholarship withdrawn.
Leave of Absence may be approved under exceptional circumstances. This would need to be discussed with 91¿´Æ¬ÉñÆ÷ representatives.

We understand that not all students have the capacity or ability to study full-time. Your personal situation and requirements could be discussed with 91¿´Æ¬ÉñÆ÷ representatives.
No, the scholarship cannot be transferred to another university program. The scholarship will be awarded based on study with the 91¿´Æ¬ÉñÆ÷.
We understand that a student’s circumstances may change at any time. Students wishing to withdraw from their studies and/or the scholarship would need to speak with a 91¿´Æ¬ÉñÆ÷ representative.
Successful recipients of the scholarship will be monitored and supported by a University staff member. They will assist you to stay on track where possible. If you fail to meet requirements the scholarship may be withdrawn. Your place at the University will remain as long as you are meeting academic progress and conduct requirements.
Students will receive health, wellbeing and academic support throughout their studies. Students may also access tutoring for specific units.
Snow Scholars will have access to a dedicated study and relaxation space to enjoy each other’s company, relax, participate in development opportunities, and to study.
The Program Manager of the scholarship program will be available for Snow Scholars to provide advice, lead the development program and assist in management of studies and work opportunities.
Successful recipients will become part of the Snow Scholars Alumni, and be given the opportunity to be an active member of the University community, abide by all rules and policies, including the Student Charter, and be willing to collaborate in marketing events of the Snow Scholars Program.
